Women’s Organizations Propose 5 Laws

On May 7th women’s groups presented to the Plurinational Legislative Assembly 5 proposed new laws: The Law of Autonomy and Decentralization, Electoral Organ Law, Electoral Regime law, Judicial Organ Law, and Constitutional Tribunal Law.   A march organized by delegates from roughly 1000 different social organizations from across the country wound through downtown La Paz in support of the new laws that the legislature must decide upon by June 22nd.

Autonomy Minister Carlos Romero announced his agreement with the Law of Autonomy and Decentralization presented by the women. President of the Senate René Martinez also expressed his agreement with the proposed laws. The five laws will incorporate recognition of women’s rights into local and state governments, and indigenous organizations.
