Bolivia vice President Álvaro García Linera assured the public that he supports community justice on June 12th in Santa Cruz. After four policemen were lynched by indigenous community members, Garcia Linera urged all to respect the traditions of farmers and Ayllus (native Aymara groups) but emphasized that murder is not part of community justice. Garcia Linera said that capital punishment was not part of the acceptable forms of punishment under community justice. “We defend community justice, indigenous and farming communities, agragrian unions because in these communities there is no killing, we can’t forget that 40% of Bolivians are farmers and 60% are indigenous, it is our country and we will defend it.” Garcia Linera emphasized that the government has promised to bring those responsible for lynching the policemen to justice and put them in jail.
