The Third International Quinoa Congress was inaugarated today in Oruro, bringing together producers, venders, and consumers of the the native Andean grain. The conference aims to create opportunities to exchange new scientific, technological, and community developments in quinoa production. According to Elva Terceros, director of the National Institute of Agriculture and Livestock, “the Congress will permit us to familiarize ourselves with the latest knowledge and technology that have informed the production and transformation of quinoa.” Director Terceros added that the Congress will discuss such themes as most efficient use of the grain, irrigation systems to improve production, use of fertilizers, organic quinoa, and exportation. Terceros expected around 500 people to attend the event and confirmed the participation of representatives from various Latin American and European countries.
