The new project makes La Paz the second Bolivian city, after Sucre, to offer such a service. In the two plazas however, access will be limited to 200 users at a time in order to avoid overloading the connection. Users will be able to access personal email services, such as Yahoo, Hotmail, and Gmail, in addition to the social networking site Facebook and the search engine Google. Wi-fi users will not be able to download programs or music or access websites deemed pornographic. The connection will have a bandwidth of 2 megabytes and a transfer speed of 64 kilobytes. The wi-fi service began today after an inauguration ceremony by La Paz mayor, Juan Del Granado Cossío. According to Luis Sergio Valle, director of Organizational Development and Information Technology for the mayor´s office, the project is meant to provide internet service to the entire La Paz community in order to give free access to culture and information. Mr. Valle continued saying, “this service is projected to connect, in the next few months, all of the plazas in the city.” The wi-fi will be available 24-hours a day.
