Indigenous Groups Ask Evo to Heed Observations

Posted: Nate on Aug 20 | Indigenous & Culture, Politics

Today several of Bolivia´s indigenous organizations jointly requested that President Evo Morales listen to their observations concerning government ministers they feel are doing a poor job.  Sergio Hinojosa, the Jiliri Apu Mallku of the National Chamber of Ayllus and Markas of Qullasuyu (CONAMAQ) said, “we have suggested to President Morales that he listen to our recommendations about poorly performing ministers and the President has to take those into account.  In Caranavi there were two deaths and the situation in Potosí was very prolonged.  On whom can we depend so that these situations don´t deteriorate?”  Adolfo Chávez, president of the Confederation of Indigenous Peoples of Bolivia, said that the president should have a shared responsibility with social organizations.  Mr. Chávez added that Mr. Morales should take social organizations´ recommendations into account when deciding whether to keep or replace ministers.

Yesterday President Morales announced that there would be no immediate changes to his cabinet and that no minister would be fired without evidence of bad work.
