Public Defender Denounces Youth Incarceration

Public Defender Rielma Mencias denounced the dangers faced by the 1,056 youth incarcerated with their parents in Bolivia. According to Mencias’ data, Santa Cruz houses the most minors in jail (321), followed by Cochabamba (275) and La Paz (234).

The defender verified that the recurrent problems faced by the incarcerated that pose a specific threat to the rights of children include overcrowding, inadequate infrastructure, and a lack of access to health services.
