The Civil Association of Social Development and Cultural Promotion “Libertad” (ADESPROC) that includes the GLBT collective sent a letter to the president’s spokesman explaining the protest, saying, “we demand a retraction of the statements made by the president as they violated the rights of people with diverse sexual orientations and gender identities—those who are currently in the process of publicizing and reclaiming their rights.” The executive director of ADESPROC, Alberto Moscoso, sent another letter to the president explaining the deep rejections felt by gays as a result of the head of state’s comments during the inauguration of the Global Conference on Climate Change. Moscoso pointed out that Morales’ comments were homophobic and lacked scientific basis. The letter cited the second paragraph of article 14 of the new Political Constitution of the State that prohibits the discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity. Protests were also held at the Bolivian embassy in Spain. For more information in Spanish: http://www.erbol.com.bo/noticia.php?identificador=2147483927362 |
