The Bolivian government has declared the area a disaster zone and declared a departmental emergency. Due to the severity of the situation, with the Acre River still rising and potentially threatening the International Bridge linking Cobija with Brasilea, Brazil, President Evo Morales instructed his vice president, Álvaro Garcia LInera, to coordinate and accompany the transfer of food and clothing to the victims of the flooding. The newspaper La Razón reports that the town of Bolpebra has been “destroyed” by flooding, and the village of Filadefia has been surrounded by the Tahuamanu River. Officials are readying Puerto Maldonado, in Peru, for flooding, due to the increased water volume from the Bolivian rivers just across the Peru-Bolivia border.
