President Evo Morales said recently that the current government headquarters, the Palacio Quemado, is too small and a new one must be built. “Initially I had thought about improving this palace, when I first arrived here I felt that it was a very large palace, but as the time passed it began feeling smaller and smaller, and as it was very small, we wanted to improve and enlarge it, but in the end we decided that it will stay as a colonial palace of State and we will construct a new Plurinational State Palace,” said Morales.

Morales said that he has asked architects to begin drafting new designs for a future palace according to the principles of the Plurinational State such as rescuing indigenous cultures, knowledge, and indigenous cosmovision. The new build will include a helipad.

Former presidential candidate Samuel Doria Medida, said that this proposed expense was unnecessary because there are other urgent needs in the country. “What we need are productive investments that will generate jobs, that will give decent houses to all Bolivians, there are hundreds of thousands of Bolivians that have no house,” said Medina.
