Morales cited capitalism as the primary cause of environmental degradation, held western countries responsible for poisoning mother earth, and made controversial claims about the causes of baldness and “female aspects in men” which have drawn criticism from scientists and gay rights advocates. “Baldness is an interesting this. Sorry to my European brothers but baldness which appears normal is actually a sickness; in Europe everyone is bald and this is because of what they eat while in indigenous communities there are no bald people because we eat other things,” said Morales who then fanned his abundant hair at the audience. “Baldness is the result of genetically modified foods and I am sure that in fifty years everyone will be bald and barbers will be unemployed,” said the Bolivian President. Baldness (alopecia) is largely an inherited genetic trait linked to the X chromosome and the DHT hormone, baldness predates modern genetically modified foods and no study has ever linked it with genetically modified foods. Morales said that Coca Cola harms the human body and told a story where plumbers use coca cola to unclog their most blocked toilets. Morales touted the benefits of eating from traditional indigenous earthenware plates and pointed out that these plates can be safely thrown out when they break whereas modern synthetic plates have toxic substances and must go the landfills. Morales also cited the benefits of natural fibers like wool over synthetic materials. “As a child I walked around with ponchos from Tarabuco and these weren’t synthetic or made from nylon. They protected me from the cold, and rain and didn’t contaminate the environment,” said Morales. I can only speak as to coca -cola, and I know that my auto mechanic used coca cola to clean auto battery terminals, that had been corroded . When he applied the Coca-cola, you could see fumes around the battery terminals and the corrosion disappeared.
