Mario Esquivel, president of the Paraguay Communications Company (Copaco), has said that in email correspondence with his Bolivian counterpart, Entel president Ramón Reyes, Bolivian officials have expressed serious interest in allowing the new fiber-optics cable to pass through Bolivia. The project, headed by American company AT&T, will connect trans-Atlantic cables in Buenos Aires, Argentina to Brazil, Paraguay, Bolivia, Chile, and eventually the United States. If approved by the Bolivian legislature, the cable is expected to connect Bolivia in July of 2011 and will be completed in 2013.
