On March 5th, the Bolivian Post Office (Ecobol) presented a commemorative stamp to celebrate President Evo Morales’ second inauguration just two months ago in January of 2010. The official unveiling of the Morales commemorative stamp was held at the Presidential Palace with various government ministers and functionaries present.

The Minister of Public Works, Services, and Housing, Walter Delgadillo spoke about the importance of this stamp of which some 30 thousand units are now circulating. “It a symbol that will remain forever and circulate between all humanity. It’s a homage to the nation, the President, and the World,” said Delgadillo.

The President of Ecobol, Constancio Hugo Choquehuanca, presented President Morales with a special folder with the stamps. On the stamp President Morales appears with Bolivian indigenous hero Tupac Katari who led a popular uprising with 40,000 native troops against the Spanish and laid seige to La Paz in 1781. Katari maintained the seige for 184 days, killing and starving many of the Spanish defenders until his army was defeated by emergency forces sent from Lima and Buenos Aires.
